Method 1 – Try the data verification and recovery tool 

A faulty QuickBooks component or file can cause error 40003. To fix the error, you need to repair the damage by running the Verify Data and Rebuild Data tool. I saw – 

  1. Click the Windows icon and type QuickBooks Desktop in the search bar. Hover over the selection, right-click it, and select Run as administrator. 
  2. Now click on the File tab on the QuickBooks screen. 
  3. Select Utilities from the drop-down menu, and then select Confirm Information. 
  4. Let the tool run and diagnose problems with the data file. 
  5. This may take a few minutes.  The tool will display some messages while scanning the file – 
  6. “QuickBooks found no problems with your data” means there is no problem. 
  7. A special error message asks you to follow the instructions mentioned in the text. 
  • “Your data has lost integrity” means you need to repair the file. 
  • Promote the File tab and go to Utilities. 
  1. Select the Restore Data option to create a backup copy of your QuickBooks business data file.

  • Method 2 – Manually update QuickBooks Desktop

    Method 3 – Change Windows Firewall settings 

    The firewall tries to prevent programs installed on the device from running to protect system data. If QuickBooks is on the firewall list, you need to create an exception for it by following the steps below – 

    1. Tap the Windows icon and open the Start menu. 
    2. Type Windows firewall and select an option to open a new window. 
    3. Click on Advanced, go to Inbound Rules, right-click on it, and select  New Rule. 
    4. Select Program and click Next. Now select This program path and click  Next. 
    5. Find and select an executable file from the list of files provided to QuickBooks. 
    6. You will need to repeat the procedure for all  QuickBooks files listed. 
    7. Press Next and tap  Allow Connection. 
    8. Press Next again. In the next section, select all profiles and click Next.  
    9. Finally, create this rule and name it “QBFirewallException(name.exe).” 
    10. Follow similar steps to create output rules for all QB .exe files. 
    11. Open QuickBooks Desktop, click the File menu and select Switch to multi-user mode.
